I was wondering whether anyone made use of servers at home? Whether it is for file storage, media streaming, gaming, or even a little firewall or email forwarder. Also, what software do you use on the server?
At home I had my personal PC just act as the file server for the family, since I had about 6TB worth of storage in it. Didn't see the need in a dedicated server.

I currently am running an older server with about 10 TB of space as a file server. I have a small rack in the garage with a few Cisco Routers and Firewalls I got for free for testing purposes. It works good as we have several Amazon Fire Sticks with Kodi sideloaded and they can all access the data whenever they need to.

I also am working on building a smaller Squid Proxy server for better internet monitoring/policing with my kids (and because I have too much free time on my hands).
